In June 2018, the Government announced that it intends to introduce a legislative framework which will allow unions and employers to negotiate fair pay agreements (FPAs). FPAs are intended to set industrywide minimum employment conditions, including pay and other working conditions. The Government stated the purpose of FPAs was to prevent a “race to the bottom”, to lift wages and conditions and ensure good employers are not disadvantaged by paying reasonable, industry-standard wages.
