During her years in-house, Jaya advised on a range of day-to-day and strategic legal issues faced by business, and specifically providing commercial, corporate, consumer and employment advice. Jaya has a detailed understanding of New Zealand employment law, the equivalent Australian requirements, whistleblower legislation and the pressures facing businesses.

Jaya focuses on partnering with clients, understanding their business and how she can provide strategic and pragmatic advice to enable the client to meet its commercial and people objectives. Advising on all areas of employment law, Jaya has wide-ranging employment and mediation experience in respect of disciplinary and employee performance management, corporate restructures, personal grievances, wages and entitlements claims, payroll audits, human rights and disability matters arising in the context of employment.

Jaya completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Organisational Psychology) conjoint degree at the University of Auckland. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2009, and admitted in the High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of Victoria in 2010.
